ADMINISTRATIVE LAW
CODE ENFORCEMENT
LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES PUT CODES INTO PLACE TO PROTECT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF RESIDENTS, THE CHARACTER OF NEIGHBORHOODS, AND THE VALUE OF PROPERTIES.
SK&A works closely with property owners to achieve compliance with code enforcement regulations and ordinances which, in turn, rehabilitates properties and improves community and home values.
- Dwellings Deemed “Uninhabitable”
- Failure to Meet Health Inspections
- Improper Venting
- Insufficient Sprinkler Systems
- Misplaced Smoke or Carbon Monoxide Detectors
- Overgrowth of Vegetation
- Litter/Debris Accumulation
- Fences & Other Structures in Disrepair
- Missing Handrails on Stairs
- Illegal Structures & Additions
Failure of a property owner to abide by these codes can result in the municipality taking legal action or imposing fines, sometimes substantial. Bringing a property into compliance with code is often easy enough to do, but on occasion it can be complicated or even seemingly impossible.
The SK&A team also assists property owners in communicating with the municipality as they work to comply with the code, avoiding escalation of legal action by the municipality. In those difficult cases, the attorneys negotiate with the municipality to come to an agreement in the best interest of the property owner.
SK&A prides itself on taking shrewd, aggressive legal action on behalf of property owners to ensure safety, maintain properties, and improve neighborhoods, all while containing cost and risk.
A passion for property and care for community, that’s what drives the SK&A team.
